Discipline is key to running your own business.

But, man it can feel like drudgery sometimes.

If you find yourself putting off things that you need to do for your business time and time again (even though technically they’re in your “plan”), this video is for you.

These two mindset shifts have made a big difference to ensure that I don’t get distracted by the shiny objects that pop up constantly in my day.

See, I’m pretty good at planning and knowing what I need to do to get where I want to go. But if I feel “forced” to do something, I resist it like it’s my job. Especially if there’s no end in sight.

I want to feel a sense of freedom. Like I can do what I want to do, so if there’s a crazy-big plan staring me in the face, I start to negotiate with myself.

”I’ll do that later. This other thing is more important right now.”

“I deserve a little break. This project can wait.”

Have you ever tried to be more disciplined about something (your schedule, your money, your food, your exercise, etc.), only to find that it’s way too easy for you to blow off the rules you’ve set for yourself?

The way to get back on track for me is to break discipline down into baby steps, and to de-personalize my business. Here’s what I mean:
